Gifts of the Magi

So the New Year has come and as always I have been completely snowed under at work all day yesterday. Today is slightly better but I have decided to leave the note on the back of my screen that I put yesterday. The note says: I am really busy. Please do not interrupt unless you have something really urgent that no-one else can deal with or if you have something funny to say as I need cheering up. It's blu-tacked to the back of my screen that is facing the door, meaning anybody who comes in immediately sees it, reads it and escapes. It actually was quite funny when one of my bosses read it and left the room straight away without even saying a word. Good stuff. Well anyway I have stuff to do, so it's actually quite useful that no-one bothers me with meaningless questions. I have enough meaningless queries in my inbox to deal with. The Christmas break was too short as always, in spite of actually being two weeks long. I guess it's because of all the fuss with Christmas shopping, Christmas cooking and then wasting half of the good night sleep on New Year's Eve. However I must admit I quite liked getting up at 9.30, food wasn't bad at all (after all I am a good cook, am I not?) and it's been fun to watch the fireworks from our window on the Hogmanay and a couple of seconds later on BBC1 Scotland. I have made a few New Year's resolutions just to remind myself that it's quite useful to have plans. New Year's day is as good a day as any other to remind myself of that. Apparently you shouldn't make any New Year's resolutions because if you fail to accomplish stuff it will only make you depressed. Well, I found a way to deal with it, I reckon. Some of my resolutions are: to save money (not to save 5 grand; even if I save just 5 quid it'll still be an achievement), to look for a new job (not to find one, as this is not entirely up to me). Now as it's Epiphany today, a traditional celebration of the three Wise Men from the East visitng baby Jesus and bringing him the gifts (in some countries people actually give and receive gifts today), can I ask the three Kings to bring me some luck this year? Just a little bit, to make achieving things easier. And that's what I wish to all my readers in the New Year as well! Best of luck in 2009!

Hiya! Thanks for reading my blog!
I'm loving yours too!

My husbands family is from Venezuela and my mothers family is Puerto Rican and we ALWAYS celebrate Epiphany (or Kings Day)! We always layed at the foot of our bed a bowl of grass for the camels, and a glass of water for the Wise Men...and when we woke up they would leave us a treat!

Hello Mary!

I love what you do for the Kings Day! It makes so much more sense to me to give gifts today then on Christmas Day - or even on Christmas Eve as we do in Poland. On the other hand - I couldn't wait, could I? All the best to you and your hubby!

A gift of gold would be nice... closest I'll get is the Gold Club biscuits in my kitchen cupboard!
Will need to try that note trick...

Hello Michael!
Yep, always thought that the gold was the most useful of the three. What would the baby Jesus do with the frankincense and the myrrh?
